Happy New Years!

I can't believe this year is about to be over. I feel like I did so much! But the best thing was getting back into sewing because its given me a chance to spend more time with my mom. I had forgotten how much I love quilting. This year my new years resolution is going to be to learn to knit and embroider. My mom and I are going to embroider the old sunbeam appliances onto kitchen towells and knit wash cloths and scarfs. I think this is going to be a fun year!

Snow

I still can't believe it snowed four inches here today. It wasn't even forcasted, but I guess that shouldn't surprise me :)

I had a fun evening planned with my dad before the snow hit. We were supposed to go to the Nike employee store. 50 % off all the latest Nike gear!! But instead of that I spent two hours in my car trying to get home. A drive that should normally take 15 minutes...

Lil Sadie loved catching snow balls in her mouth. We went for a walk and stood on the corner and watched cars get stuck on the hill. Now we are hanging out by the fire relaxing waiting for the snow to melt.

Merry Kiss Miss!

Oh my gosh, I had such a great Christmas! It started out early. Joe, our dog Sadie and I packed all of the presents into my car and we headed to my parents house for breakfast. A few hours later we were enjoying waffles, eggs and bacon. Yum! Next on the agenda was presents! I was so happy to get my new Dyson vacuum cleaner. Tomorrow I plan on doing some big time vacuuming, goodbye dog hair! After opening presents we took the dogs to the dog park which was the highlight of the day. Sadie was going crazy chasing her tennis ball (along with a few others dog's tennis balls, LOL). Even my mom's dog little Sophie who is normally pretty timid around a lot of other dogs was running around the park becoming braver with each minute! Mom, you will have to email me the pictures from the park to post here. The park was followed by dinner and a movie back at my parents with more family. My mom really made the house so cozy with all of her holiday decorating which made the day even more special!

Christmas Towels!

I finished sewing four Christmas towels yesterday along with some other holiday sewing projects. I don't have a sewing room or table yet so I was cutting fabric on the floor in the livingroom and I have turned my dining room into a tempary sewing space.
Whatever works, right!

Christmas Village

Every year before Christmas my mom sets out her Christmas village, houses that she has collected over the years. When I was younger I used to imagine what it would be like to live in one of the houses.

I think my dad's new Harley inspired this purchase!

Little Apron

I forgot to post this picture earlier this year of a great "little" apron I made for my mom while she was recovering from surgery.

ICE SKATES!

The ice skates are complete!! Today my mom and I put the finishing touches on our Christmas ice skates. They both turned out so cute! And we did this all after we stayed up until almost midnight sewing quilt blocks the night before! Thank goodness for coffee.

I had such a good time with you mom, love you!

I can't believe my four day weekend is almost over. Joe, Sadie and I went to my parent’s house for Thanksgiving which also happened to be Sadie's 1st birthday. She wore her new red and white polka dotted collar and I wore my new red scarf! All evening I kept thinking about getting up early on Black Friday and what stores to go to, but when Friday morning rolled around I decided to sleep in and take Sadie for a morning run followed by coffee and relaxation.

I'm so happy the house is all decorated for Christmas!
Didn't Joe do a great job hanging the lights!

Mom's House

Doesn't my mom have great taste! Check out the pictures of some of her fall decorations. I can't wait to see what she has in store for Christmas!

Busy!

This has been such a busy fall! Not nearly as relaxing and carefree as the summer. I am back at school taking an accounting class so I have not had nearly as much free time to blog.
Last weekend was spent buying Christmas decorations and my mom and I made the cutest decorations using old ice skates. I will post a picture of them later this week. This weekend I did some cooking, studying, cleaning, laundry and decorating while my boyfriend and our dog Sadie were in Bend hunting. While I was at the grocery store on Saturday I ran across a bannana bread mix that I wanted to buy. Two bannana's, one egg, 3/4 cup of water and bread mix all combined into my mixer, 45 minutes in the oven and I had the best snack and a yummy smelling kitchen just in time for Joe and Sadie to arrive back home!

Quilt Block!

This weekend my boyfriend Joe was gone so my dog Sadie and I packed up my sewing machine and headed to my parents in Salem. Saide and my mom's dog Sophie finally took a nap after lots of playtime so I was able to finish sewing my quilt block!

I have about 5 of those, you can have one of mine

Last night before I went to bed I made sure to set my alarm for 5:15am so that I could be up and ready to leave for Salem by 6:30am. I even checked twice to make sure it was set. My mom and I wanted to be down at the Coburg Antique Fair early. But this morning when I woke up it was 7:07am!!! I hate oversleeping!!! But I was up and was able to get ready and got to Salem by 8:15 am and I live in Beaverton. I had to do a little make-up at a stop light but I made it. From there we were off to Coburg! Once we go there we got a lot of great ideas for things we wanted to make ourselves and got some fun treasures. I definitely saved some money because when I would see something I liked, my mom would say, "I have about 5 of those, you can have one of mine." Yay!

one with the fabric

This morning at 9:00am was the 1st meeting of the year in Grandma's Quilt Club at Grandma's Attic (an amazing fabric/sewing store) in Dallas, OR. I drove down to Salem to meet my mom and we drove there together.

There are monthly meetings and everyone in the club gets a pattern and some fabric each time to make one quilt block so that at the end of the year you have 12 different blocks to sew together into a quilt.

Rachel who speaks each month to the club told us today that there three things we can't discuss when we were all together. Politics, religion, and weight, because these things keep us from becoming "one with the fabric". She is pretty funny!

This year the theme of the club is the bobby sox sisters so along with discussing sewing and quilts we will also be talking about three young girls growing up in the 1940's and 50's and learn what their recipe's, crafts, sewing projects, and household tips were.

For my quilt blocks I chose 1930's fabrics. I love all of the little prints on them! Once I finish the I will post a picture. I am so excited to sew on my new sewing machine that I got last night for my birthday!!!!

Guest Room Decorating

This morning I returned from exciting weekend of boating on Lake Billy Chinook and was ready for a nice relaxing day around the house. I did a little unpacking, some weeding, some vacuming... Then my mom and her dog Sophie came up for the afternoon and we decided to do some decorating. She decorates so well I always trust her opinion. I had some things in my guest room I had been wanting to hang up. One was the apron I bought last weekend! This is the one room in my house that I can decorate as girly or pink as I want without my boyfriend complaining. Thanks mom for the help, the room looks great!

Movie & Shopping!

I just spent two great days with my mom Galye in Salem! I took off of work at 3:00 Friday so that I could get to my parents house in time for us to catch the movie Julie & Julia. So cute by the way!! I didn't realize how funny Julia Child was. The movie was based off of a book that I may just have to go buy now :)

We then got up early Saturday morning to go to Molly Mo's Summer Antique Faire in Sublimity. The vendors were so great and there were so many cute things to look at. I bought a pink vintage apron and a table runner. I liked the table runner so much because it was made with blue and brown fabrics which I would like to start using more of together.

After shopping we have a nice lunch in Silverton and checked out an antique store there. But we still had more shopping to do back in Salem. Both of us want sewing machines for our birthdays this year so we went to a sewing machine store in downtown Salem to check out the Janome machines. Since my mom's sewing machine of 35 years recently died we have been sewing on an old Singer featherweight machine (which we love), but we are each ready for something with more features!

Organization

I was so excited to go to my parents house on Saturday because I told my mom that I would organize her sewing room. The goal was to get all of the fabric organized and to basicly see what we had. Since I am in school I am on a budget so I don't buy much fabric. On the other hand my mom Gayle has the cutest fabric ever and plenty of it!!! I loved looking at all of it imagining what I could make. Its like our own private little fabric store now!!

Posie Gets Cozy

Posie Gets Cosie. That's my mom Gayle and I's favorite blog to read right now by Alicia Paulson. She has amazing crafts to try and offers her patterns on her website. We recently made her Jane Market Bag and Summer House Pillow. Both turned out great considering that I have not sewn in ages. The projects have insipired me to to be creative and get back into sewing. I even bought a pattern so that I can make a poodle skirt for my Halloween costume!
